An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Thursday two men to a collective sentence of 24 years in prison after convicting them of attacking policemen and possessing illicit weapons and explosives.
The court found Nawab Ali and Muhammad Sharif guilty of attacking a police team to avoid their arrest and of possession of hand grenades and unlicenced weapons in November last year. The incident occurred in a slum area of Sohrab Goth. The ATC-I judge, Bashir Ahmed Khoso, sentenced the men to 14 years in prison for carrying explosive substances, and handed them two counts of five years for possessing weapons and attacking the police. Since the sentences were observed to run concurrently, only the longest jail term will be counted as total imprisonment time.
They were also imposed a fine of Rs70,000 each, which, if they fail to pay, will result in their spending six more months behind bars.
